late 2012 mac mini to dell 2416 thunderbolt 2560x1440

Has anyone else got a late 2012 mac mini working at full resolution to a dell 2416D?

I can connect via hdmi, but that gives max 1920x1080

I have bought a mini dp to DisplayPort cable, but when I try connecting with this, the monitor stays blank and says no signal.

I have connected the monitor fine to a windows pc using DisplayPort -> DisplayPort cable @ full 2560x1440 resolution.

Anything I can do to the mac mini or the monitor to make them recognize each other?

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4), display dell 2416D

Make sure that you fully insert the mini displayport plug in to the Thunderbolt port.

I have a 2012 Mini and have no trouble getting that resolution via a mini displayport>Displayport cable

- Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM

- Try starting in Safe Mode

- Boot to Recovery and repair the startup disk

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

How to reinstall OS X on your Mac - Apple Support

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.

Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX

Thanks for this, but I have already tried the smc reset (by unplugging power). Also the cable is firmly inserted.

Do you have the Dell 2416D monitor?

Maybe I should try another cable.

Just for info you other people.. I got this working with a new cable (Amazon Basics AmazonBasics Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable - 6 Feet $9.99)

The original cable that I bought from FRYs was the problem .. Should have known .. $8 cable.. piece of rubbish.
